Weddings

We are delighted that you are considering getting married in St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The church will provide a beautiful setting* for what will be a very important occasion in your life. The decisions, promises and commitment you will make will be binding upon you for life, and in coming to the church for marriage, you are asking God to be part of your marriage.

In a Church Wedding the minister acts as an agent for the Registrar of Marriages, in the legal sense. However, the very nature of a Church Wedding means that a couple come consciously believing in the Christian view of Marriage and seeking God’s blessing on their union.

It is our hope that you will attend St Andrew’s both before and after your wedding and you are very welcome to share in the worship and life of our Church Family. You will find St Andrew’s to be a loving, welcoming and accepting church. You are most welcome to attend any of our services: Traditional service 10:00 am and Contemporary service 5:00 pm.

Cost

Church hire: $900 (inc. GST.)

This is to be paid no later than 2 weeks prior to the wedding by cheque or direct debit.

Documents

In preparation for marriage, you are required by Law to give one month and one day’s Notice of Intended Marriage. It is preferable to do this much sooner. The relevant forms can be completed any time within a minimum period of 18 months prior to your wedding date. You will need to provide your Birth Certificate or an extract to the celebrant at the time of completing and signing your form. If you have been previously married a copy of the Divorce Absolute must be sighted or a copy of the Death Certificate of your spouse. These documents are returned to you as soon as they are sighted, the details are checked and the relevant information is recorded.

Process

If you would like to explore getting married at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, please contact bookings@standrewsnewcastle.org.au

Within the Presbyterian Church it is not essential to have been baptised either as an infant or as an adult. Within the Presbyterian Church we also marry divorcees, though obviously we do so having discussed relevant matters surrounding this in some detail.

Music

If you chose to have music provided by us, you should make contact with our Director of Music as soon as possible after you have confirmed your booking with us.

She is available to meet with you at the church to discuss and select music and musical instruments.

Music for your wedding includes:

  • Music for the Bridal party processional.
  • Music for the Bridal party recessional.
  • Music for approximately 10 minutes while the signing of the register is being carried out.

The best effect for the processional and recessional is created by beautiful music from the St Andrew’s William Hill pipe organ, which for its vintage and size is regarded as one of the finest organs in Australia.

Some couples prefer Classical Music played on the organ. Others prefer one or two popular songs played as instrumental music on the grand piano. The organist will discuss all these matters and make helpful suggestions if requested to do so.

We also welcome your own musicians.

Decorations

If you would like us to provide flowers, we can do so at no extra cost.

Should you wish to decorate the Church pews it must be remembered that these must be tied on, as bluetack is not allowed. The decorations must be removed immediately after the service.

Confetti, rice and rose petals are not permitted in the church or outside the church. Civic Park is recommended as a beautiful place for photographs.
